Civitas — Editorial Illustration
This project is an editorial illustration created to support a master’s thesis article on urban spaces, written by a student in the Faculty of Architecture.
The role of the illustration was to translate complex urban concepts—such as density, infrastructure, movement, and human interaction—into a visual narrative that could be understood quickly and intuitively. Rather than documenting a specific city, the illustration abstracts urban elements into a coherent system that reflects how cities function as interconnected environments.
An isometric perspective, consistent line weight, and a restrained color palette were used to maintain clarity and neutrality, allowing the illustration to support the academic text without overpowering it. Buildings, streets, and figures are constructed as modular components, enabling the scene to communicate multiple layers of urban activity within a single composition.
The balance between precise geometry and simplified human presence reflects the thesis’s core idea: cities are both structured systems and lived spaces. The illustration acts as a visual companion to the written research, helping bridge architectural theory and spatial understanding.
